I think we should start a new thread after the week ends!  Who did what with their Land Rovers today?

I went up into the mountains outside our village!  Anybody else go out to play?

Good idea for a thread.

Well I went to the Lister Tyndale Steam Rally in South Gloucestershire with a few friends.

The best part was one of my mates had one of his early vehicles out at the Rally. The last time this vehicle was shown was 1979.

1948 model R860205.

We had a heap of fun late in the day having some decent space in a nearby field to do a touch of set up work to get her driving really nicely ready for MOT which will be her first since around 1970.

not so much as do in but do on:-

re-assembled & re-fitted the near side rear spring following greasing,
(found a hole in the chassis)
re-sealed the fuel cap adaptor (jaguar cap on an alli' tank) as it was leaking,
primed the seat belt brackets I made last week (the wife requested 3 point inertia belts),
went for a 3 mile test drive to try the springs (much better) and warm the oil,
drained the engine oil.

Took Zit to the Hadstock show yesterday just to make the Aston Martins etc look shinier. Then spent much of this morning travelling about in it to find my mobile phone that I 'lost', only to find it back in the barn where  left it resting on an old 80" back body.............

Mine is only a chassis so I didn't go far in it! I did start to squirt the waxoyl inside it. 3 litres so far and still going.

T'was a beautiful weekend in Cape Town (did any soccer enthusiasts notice?) so fitted the repaired exhaust manifold (thanks Graham) & took the 88" for a drive from Constantia to Hout Bay harbour, bought some fresh Cape Salmon to have on the braai! Not bad for a day out in Africa.

Loaded my 80 inch with 300Kg of blacksmiths coke from a fellow smith - tried to get the portable forge going (and failed), so started my main forge up, and bashed some steel...a very good weekend...

A few days ago someone put up a post on here about a 2lt diesel for sale on ebay.
Located in Braintree, just 20 minutes away from me.

Wonder where I went (in a Land Rover) today.......?

(No, I won't be bidding. This one reinforces the "view before you bid" advice!)

I went round the place filling the Brockhouse with junk for the tip, Saw an ad for a vintage rally at Semmington nr Devizes, so came back from the tip and took the 80" over for the afternoon. Nice little local rally, 3 or 4 land rovers (forgot to take pictures sorry) including an 86" or 88" hardtop  in nicely used condition.

Oh and I fitted a new speedo cable after the previous one broke at the gearbox end.  Now reads about 10mph tho' :undecided:  so more work needed (unless the 80" has found a second wind in its old age!)

Just a thought. You may have a good reason, but if you had the windscreen supports the other way round the catches would hold the screen down and you may not need that cable tie.
