Walked dogs, made a dump run sans hay run (we have round bales again), and then ran the Series up to Big Wash for a bath and detailing.  Note to family:  It's okay to put patio chair cushions in the back, but not wet ones, as one of the back bench seats was soaked   Canvas top is off and stored, but I'll keep the door tops and sticks on until all greenhouse operations are completed this week.  Tanked up with almost 1,000 miles on the clock since purchased; I straightened out the rod on the float sender to the gas gauge, and it seems to read more accurately now.

I like the spare wheel storage bag.
It's from Exmoor Trim, and very commodious; allows tow rope, fire extinguisher, etc. to be stowed neatly away, and still leaves enough room for two adult passengers.

I cleaned up the handthrottle I had from Malcolm at Newbury.  Fitted new outer and  inner cables, and made and fitted  a replacement handle. The original handle will be good for a pattern. Will fit it in FAP 742, as Fap has a handthrottle that looks like a bonnet release fitting. Picture 1 is how it was yesterday.
1 Thank you.

I have found traces of original paint on all but the  handthrottle handle. Wondering if anyone knows the correct colour for the handle ?  Thankyou,  Bob

Hi Bob
Good to meet up briefly at Newbury and thanks for the seat bases too.
Other hand throttles Iíve had had original paint paint traces I think.
Next time Iím digging in my spares boxes Iíll have another look!
Cheers

In the meantime last week another trip to another quarry was my job for the day! As attached.

Malcolm

Malcolm, Thankyou. I am wondering if the handles were sherardized.

Today  I have decided to change the doortops on FAP 742 which is a late 49 model .   Fap has the later hinges fitted, I have found two good doortops, and today made a nearside wire hinge. Please note the hinge is not brazed in yet.   The doortop I am using has no vertical drill holes for window channel, so  would only have had channel top and bottom of door top, may of had Rover P2 channel .

With regard to the finish on the handle on a handthrottle, I have been told   the handles were cadmium finish.

What did I do in mine?... scared myself witless, that's what!  The brake master cylinder replacement is taking far too long, and I needed to get the mini-tractor/mower out from behind the (brakeless) Land-Rover.  No problem ó I've done it before... drive straight back, stop with the handbrake, get the mower out, and drive straight back in again.  The only problem is if someone wants to get past on the lane whilst the LR is across it.

Fired up the engine and started to reverse... the car picked up speed as the back wheels went down the kerb, so I reached for the handbrake...  there was none.  I'd unshipped it to get the floor out!

Fortunately there was enough of a verge the other side of the lane to stop me before I demolished my neighbour's fence and let his cattle out.  Yes, I know I could have killed the ignition switch... but that only occurred to me some minutes later.

Don't panic, Mr Mainwaring!
2 Thanks.

Windscrean demisters fitted today, painting is rubbish, need to get them powder coated semi gloss black.  I have plenty of this oval tube if anyone wants to make some, I will never use it all.

Windscreen demisters ....  need to get them powder coated semi gloss black.

For info ....the colour of these on my '57 MY 107SW was always this.  You may spot from old part worn rusty spots poking through, I never repainted them when I did this rebuild years ago... just cleaned the coating they already had.

My vents are grey as per vehicle. Its just made me  wonder if they were fitted at the factory as its a Station Wagon? I assumed they were all dealer fit.

Tom, Thankyou for the picture, I can see small bits of braze on left hand end., I have also brazed together the ones I have made.  I have another pair fitted on MNP 86 , this is a 53 86, they are welded together.  Bob

You're lucky... our council charge for anyone using a trailer (or van), even one of those tiny Erde trailers that Halfords sell, and which have just about enough room for one single mowing of lawn cuttings.

I have to apply for a pass, declare its not trade waste, only single axle trailers and you get 12 per annum

Graeme,   Derek probably has a permit, we get twelve a year if your trailer is over a metre long, or if you are in a van.
