Drive it day around Bishops Castle & Montgomery , covered about 200 miles as a run out in preparation for  National  Rally

 All I did yesterday with mine was drop off some polycarbonate roofing sheets in Knighton .

A bit of a sad one, this.  My wife Anthea, the 'official keeper' of SXF870, was finally defeated by leukaemia on March 5th.  Today was her funeral, and she was buried (as she asked to be) in our hay field.

But the happier bit is that 'Fido' was able to play a part, and take her to her final resting place in our top field, with me driving.

She bought SXF870 in 1974 when her part-time job as a Milk Recorder needed her to be able to get up to the top of the dales in all weathers.  47 years later, 'Fido' was still able to carry her where she wanted to go.
God bless and keep you, Graeme. Truly sorry for your loss.

Thank for your good wishes, Taylor.

But it's a good job we were only driving up the field at funeral speed — now I have a total lack of brakes!  I thought it was hub oil from a worn seal, but having replaced it I realised that the damp was still there... leaking brake cylinder.  (Yes, I know I should have smelt the difference between DOT4 and Hypoy, but I have no sense of smell!)  Fitted a new cylinder yesterday, but no way can we get a firm pedal.  I guess that its Master Cylinder time.

And for that I'm going to have to trailer it to a specialist — I may be only 45 inside, but the knees and eyesight have this weird notion that I'm 77, and working up under a vehicle is a no-no.

SXF870 has been fighting me gently for over a year now — full ignition refurb (most recently a replacement coil), carburettor overhaul, fuel system.  Mercifully the funeral was faultless.  I still love her, though (the Series 1 as well as the wife!)

  This morning I took a large amount of parts to the powder coaters for cleaning and painting, ready for the Malvern show  23rd May. At the powder coaters was a new Bearmach series 3 galvanized chassis , they say they powder coat straight onto the chassis.
     This afternoon I started to refurbish a 1948  ST 51 D light that came with OEV 357 when I bought it. I riveted on a new bulb holder platform, and made a 4 ba brass fixng screw, with a knurled head.Sorry if not perfect , but is my first attempt, Originals were chrome on brass, but I would think repro ones are now stainless steel.
2 Thanks.

Sorry for being late, but this is what I did yesterday ...
A trip down along the coast and a 2 hour walk on the beaches.
Very pleased with the performance of the 86", not so pleased with my own condition, and I am 10 days younger!  :tic:

  I made a couple of stainless D lamp cover fixing screws this afternoon. Picture 1 is a late 1930s D lamp screw, Clever how they reduced the shank of screw under the head. I keep wondering why the slot is so wide in the head of screw. Pictures 2/3  is a new screw in stainless.  Still a few more to make, all mine seem to be self tappers.

Bob I believe the slot was wide so it could be opened up with a penny (lsd) to change the bulb hang over from m/c lamps ?

Went on a c. 40 klick (25 mile) run in '53 80" "Yuey" to return some bike tools and a stand to a high school friend over in Schwalbach.  I dropped some microbrew bail bottles off in Oberursel Altstadt on the way there, and on the way back checked the partridge feeders.  It's still 5-10C (40-50F), so I left the top up and had the Clayton heater on, and after the complete fluid replacement last August, the truck is running like a champion.

When I'm out and about on the B-roads, I always have to do some mental math(s) avoid getting blitzed:

Km = MPH
30 = 19
50 = 31
60 = 37
70 = 43
80 = 50
100 = 62

The last one is purely aspirational!

Suggest you wait for the Summer to achieve your aspiration!

Can be done on the level if you fold the windscreen down (proper motorcycle goggles recommended) and you have a VERY long straight road.

Nick.

Been for a blast around to blow out cobwebs ( and diesel contamination from exhaust)
5 doors rattling, heavy steering, terrible turning circle , transmission whine, oil and petrol smells. Love it !.

I filled up after a 20 mile run and calculated the mileage for the last tank: 25.7 mpg Imperial / 11 L per 100km. I was happy with that.

Then, while parking it at home, I caught the rear numberplate, which is too long and overhangs the side of the tub, on my own stone gatepost and it folded over, making my 86" into an 85.75". Well, I didn't change the wheelbase, of course,  just the length of the tub.

The tub was far from pristine before this encounter, but it's still aggravating! Hopefully a few knocks with a hammer and dolly will straighten it out again.

  What a gorgeous truck!  I know the feeling when mine passes TÜV; there's always a great sense of relief ... and then the "Fahrvergnügen" can resume :-)

P.S. to Pasta ... where did you get that front Minerva-pigtail-style front towing eye?  I have been looking all over for a zinc or black rather than red one, one that bolted to the front of an 80", and one with which the TÜV were okay.  Thanks in advance for any guidance you can offer :-)

Visited my friends series one graveyard, 57 diesel SW, 52 ex raf. Also nice 49 in shed and loads of spares.
HJR 468 running fine on correct fuel ( qv) and steering seems to be freeing up a bit. Or perhaps my arms are getting stronger

Went to check out a custom chassis by a renowned fabricator locally here on the west coast (warning: photos may be offensive to rivet counters)
