Land Rover Series one theft VNK 116

My beloved every day runner Land Rover 86" a 1956 Hardtop in green and white roof, stolen a couple of hours ago in south London. It has a fluffy bunny on the front Grille.

I will have the VIN and other details, but for now, it's very original, standard except for 7.50 tyres on black rims.

So sorry to hear that. Fingers crossed it will turn up... Please post photos and we can circulate. I have some contacts in the South London motor trade who can be encouraged to look out for it.

That would be amazing thank you . Photos to follow. I just uploaded a ver recent one. Had this car for over 30 years and have maintained it as a daily runner the whole time.
Thanks again.

That's sickening.  Could it be an opportunist theft or was it stolen from somewhere reasonably secure?  I'm sure every eye on this forum will be looking out for it for you.

Thanks. It was stolen from the street outside my house. There were two of then I think. Just trying to review footage from CCTV.

Screengrab shows car with thieves inside just about to crash the gears and speed off.

There is an update to this tale in that I saw my Landy with a paint and rag top make-over after it sold recently at auction on the auction website. It was unmistakably mine to absolute 100% certainty as it had many unique little idiosyncrasies which are still clearly visible, and many that aren't. Question is, what do I do? I have had my insurance payout. I'd dearly love it back, and would happily repay the cash back to the insurers if it came to that. Any ideas what the position is in this situation?

Report the whole matter to the police and your insurers.

We would all like to know how this crime is dealt with by the Authorities in the UK in 2023.

As above report it to the insurance and police. The car belongs to the insurance company and if it can be found and definitively identified will be returned to it. It is entirely possible that they may agree to sell it back to you.

The loser is likely to be the party which bought it at auction who will probably be out of pocket unless the crim can be apprehended.
