When exactely was this trip.  It looks realy cool!
Thank you for your comment. All the pictures are from various trips we did in the last 15 years. As the title says, they are just pictures I like and they are not in any particular order.

In the lush North a mosquito fumigation truck is always a welcome sight,  even if it's not a Land Rover.

Just think DDT was sprayed about just like that back in the 1960s. Can remember camping in the 50 in Spain for a couple of fags from my parents the guy would spray in your tent to stop mosquitoes! How things change.

Repairing or replacing  the 3rd of a set of substandard  tubes that only lasted about 3 month,  at the Montecollina bore,  where the only water is available
on  the 469 km long Strzelecki track.
Gibber plain in the Strzelecki desert  (Not on the track)
Camp on the dog/dingo/ rabbit fence.

The cheap camera must have distorted the image. We did about 170k kms in 18 years. We've been very lucky, no major breakdowns on any of the trips.

The part we did..the Gibb river road in 2006 Broome to Darwin ( by T...ta)  ...before the remaining stretches of that highway became mostly tar sealed more recently , was meant to have been the first of a number of outback trips. Due to one thing and another for us these have  never happened. Fabulous to see your images of places we can only imagine....

When it started to rain in the middle of the night, not wanting to be marooned, we packed up and left at 2am for Bedourie, a town with a population of about 140, 200km away.
Shortly after dawn we stopped and cooked breakfast on the tailgate. (picture). The trip took about  7hrs. With the absence of guide posts it's almost impossible to drive at night,
in the rain in flat featureless country. There is absolutely nothing, apart from the rain, to reflect the light. It just disappears.

After more than 20 creek crossings  (we stopped counting after the 17th) of which we had to walk every one of them first due to heavy rain the night before, and after a 2hr. uphill drive
in 1st and 2nd low, we finally arrived at the crash site. The liberator bomber went missing a few months before the end of WW2 and wasn't found found for 49 years. Quite a sad story.

This plane almost ended up in the cemetery  in front of the L/R in an attempted after dark landing on an airstrip illuminated by car headlights.
The occupants managed to walk away.

Interesting story about the Liberator bomber. There is a crash site near here that wasn't found for 72 years. Lost in 1942 and finally discovered with the airmen still inside and all guns intact. Our family has been there to pay our respects to those airmen ,  very moving.

Pic 1 Someone was drilling for oil but "only" found water.
2 This lot had more luck and found enough gas and oil that warranted building a 1300 and 830 km long pipeline from Moomba to Sydney and Adelaide.
I have no idea what kind of bird is sitting on the bumper.
3 This picture is displayed at the viewing platform, where the above photo was taken.
4 The wet season was late but finally caught up with us. The next day this road was closed and left some Gulf communities isolated.

Interesting that picture 3 is a mirror Image unless that 107 is a left hooker with a transposed PT O hole ( unlikely)
Must get out more, you can now I think

Some explanations.
First post   pic. 1.  This is the picture I wanted to take before the workers appeared.
                           2. When I got out of the car to check the spongy ground my hat blew off. This is where I caught up with it.
All the pictures in this thread were taken  roughly in the area within the Xs.

So how did the "Big Mistake" come about? I take it all were OK, but was the vehicle rebuilt?

This web site is very useful for those who have never used a Globe instead of a square map.

I just lost concentration for a moment. Like when I stub my toes on a piece of furniture that hasn't moved in 30 years.
The State Emergency Service (SES) put the car  back on its wheels.  We pulled out the mud guard, refilled the engine with oil and did some other "adjustments". and I drove it home about 100km, over a mountain range after dark. One light was a bit out of focus.  A couple of days with a hammer and that was it. The only glass broken was the mud guard mirror.
The mishap happened about 15-18 years ago at low speed.

Interesting that picture 3 is a mirror Image

Strange how often that happens — the official programme for the opening of our village hall some 60 years ago shows a proud picture of the hall... flipped left to right!
