More Modern Starter Motor?
- Oct 15, 2021 - 02:07
I am super keen  to learn if anyone has been successful at fitting a modern, gear reduction or Hi-Torque Starter Motor to a Series 1.
I have a 1953 S1 80" with the Lucas M418G starter that uses a separate 3-hole mount to the Bell house.

I have searched high and low, in the UK, Australia and USA, but have not found a modern starter motor that will fit our S1s.

My original starter has a very bad worn commutator bar which has worn down by almost 10mm, so I am concerned that it has gone too far to lathe flat again.

Many thanks,
Jeff in sunny Perth, Western Australia

Hopefully LRSOC members in Australia will be able to help you out. There  must still be a few genuine starter motors in stock held by those who deal in Series One ( too many of which they keep selling back to Europe  :lipsrsealed: )  and Series One parts they recover from defunct motors parked up all over the place.
