New to the forum having purchase this 88” series one about 10 years ago and am finally getting round to starting the restoration.

It’s a 1958, 88” 4x2 military vehicle. Came off the production line in Feb 58 and was sent to ministry of supply. Ending up at Fenham barracks in Newcastle upon Tyne. Credit Austychamp for the info. It was brought and exported to Guernsey in 1966/67 were it had one owner till I purchased it as you can see in a sorry state!

I have restored a series 2a about 20 years ago and knowing how much time is involved I am planning to get some of the larger jobs done by a specialist restorer. Can anyone recommend any restorers for this project, preferably in the south of the UK?

Yes hand winch good for 10cwt apparently! Nice makers plate on it.

You could try Mike Harding Land Rovers in Bovey Tracey, Devon. I've not used them myself (I did buy my Defender off him about 15 years ago) but I have seen some nice looking vehicles in the workshop.

Had a very similar winch years ago, no makers plate or stamping. But had a MOD brass plate with all manner of information one being it was a bow drop down winch. Guess a landing craft? Cant remember date stamp.

  Vardon, Yes  mine has a MOD plate fitted , right hand end cover looking from front.Antamike definately  mixed up.
