I am just going through old photos and I found these from 1988.  Who else was in Wales for this event?

This was a wonderful event that I remember very fondly.

What does surprise me is the fact so many vehicles that attended that event, appear to have disappeared / are no longer seen. I cannot understand where they have gone to ?!

2 Thanks.

Mike,

I remember the event pretty well including getting part way there and Louise not being sure if she had switched the iron off or not meaning we had to turn around and go back and check.

There is the one shot of MXL 664 amongst the ones posted. The chassis kind of survived the fire..............

Regards

Richard

Fantastic, looks like an amazing gathering.
If I remember correctly we were split into three maybe even 4 groups and we did 4 venues, two each day, in rotation so these photos are mainly of the group I was in. I think there was a pre-pro in each of the groups...

Well count me as one of the attendees. Proven by the pictures of my Land Rover "HRX456" in some of the pictures and you can't count us as one of the disappeared land rovers/owners
Can any one remember the club's treasurer takeing the wheels off my Land Rover in the show ring? Think he was disappointed when I dident rush out of the bar but continued chatting and drinking in the bar when told about it
I only just finished putting the Land Rover back together in time for this DO! But didn't have time to paint the chassis Haveing had it galvanised, I wonder what excuse I can use for still not getting around to painting it after all this time

Thanks for posting these pictures, brings back happy memories, I didn’t take a camera so have no photo records myself. I was there with my RAF Blue Station Wagon which I owned at the time and which appears in several of the pictures. It’s now owned by a club member but sits forlornly under a tree and hasn’t moved for several years. It was at this event that I first met Peter Griffin,Ken Wheelwright and others where a long friendship ensued.

Great pictures!

Nice to see some vehicles how they were back in the day, HNX 444 looks cool as it was, very inconspicuous!

I assume some of the less travelled lanes that the pre pro L11 is pictured on are possibly the start of Monks trod (end of Elan Valley) and Dunlops Dividend (Brechfa forest), both lanes the 1948 autocar article with RO2 used? Always been fascinated with these, I think Dunlop can still be driven but Monks trod certainly cant.

You're not alone, I did exactly the same! Perhaps we should have a similar thread for the earlier event.

I also took my 80" to the event at Eastnor (organised I think by Central TV) to mark the launch of the 110. The 40th was one I was unable to get to, sadly.

Is there an attendance list (of vehicles) anywhere? I thought it was on here but I'm failing to find it if so.

I found the 4 bulletins issued in the lead up to the event last night, have scanned them  and will try to add them later.

A list can be found here https://www.lrsoc.com/forum/forum_files/legend/LRSOC%2040%20Anniversary.pdf

Just tried to upload the bulletins and it failed as the file size is too large, is there another way to share the four files?

Well !
I suppose you could go all retro! And print them out on a rotadex printer and post them! Just like the originals

I like to be helpful!

By the way no need to send me a set, I still have them and can remember when we all gathered at chewton mendip rectory to put it all together along with the newsletter before it became Leg-end
No 60 group D if I live long enough to get a state pension I would have owned HRX fifty years Aaaaaagh !
