Good to see more Series Ones out there!, I can't believe I ever considered selling this one, I did have my truck listed for a while because of the move, am thinking that I would regret selling her as I really enjoy driving the Landy, the only issue has been my wife not sharing my enthusiasm... but she is starting to warm up to the other woman.

 Currently having problems sourcing a rear long axle for the truck (broke the original), I was wondering if anyone could lend me some advice on the risks/problems of machining down a series 2 axle to fit.  I realize that the length is about 2cm less, and that the splines have to be machined the same amount inwards, doing this isn't a problem, I just want to know if this will weaken the shaft, cause problems, or will I have to  can have to harden the steel again afterwards.  I would love to bring the truck to the Founders day in Vancouver in January, but I should be settled in Edmonton by then... hopefully can figure the axle out so I can play in the snow.

Hi Corey. I , and others, machine the centre out of an old buggered flange and fit it as a spacer for the flange on the longer axle. Use longer bolts of course. Hardly noticed except by rivet counters.

Decided that I cannot part with something so easy to work on, and such a hoot to drive! I really was only selling it because of the extra logistics in transporting it across the mountains to Alberta along with the Spitfire, turns out if you are shipping one, a second isn't much to add on. I will need a project to work on during the cold long winters after all.

I didn't know so many of you guys in BC had Series I Land Rovers!


I live near Medicine Hat SE AB and as far as I know, I'm the only one around these parts that is into the original Land Rovers. So I have appeared to have accidentally started a Land Rover rescue sanctuary on my acreage.


Current Series I Land Rovers are;


1951 80".
1954 107"
X3 1957 88"   


So hello all.


We should try to organize a event sometime......perhaps the radium car show?

My kids and I had loads of fun on the waterslides in Medecine Hat when staying with family in Maple Creek back in the late 80s and early 90s.  If I get out there again, I'll look you up!

I own a 51 that I just got from near Red Deer.  Was running when she was parked up in the mid 90's.   It was used for years as a hunting truck so only went out to the foothills a couple of times a year so has survived pretty much intact and with no rust thanks to the climate.

Regards from Ottawa, where I have three 80" Rovers, one, a 1951, currently being rebuilt in a slow process after a complete dissassembly, repair the chassis, galvanise, fix the bulkhead and galvanise, slowly rebuild most things as it goes back together.

You may find parts just as cheap from England. You are approx 3,744 km west of me (slightly more than 2,000 miles). In terms for those on this fora to relate to, from London to Moscow is 1,800 miles. Moving parts could be challenging from the east, though easy within BC/Oregon/Washington.  Doing inventory for the next project. Will have a list by summer I believe. Depends on progress with putting a Koenig PTO winch on the ‘51.

To further amuse, in the Canadian Forces, once there was a rule that if you were posted overseas, you next posting had to be closer to home. A soldier from St.Johns Newfoundland was posted to the U.K. or Germany. His next posting was to Vancouver Island in BC. He successfully argued against that posting citing the rule.
