Forum Terms of Use

Terms of Use (TOU)
Please spend a few moments reading through these guidelines.

Every online community needs some rules and a framework within which it will operate. Experience has shown that we need these guidelines to maintain and preserve the nature of our forum. For the very few who accidentally transgress, or for troublemakers, we have explained here how we will run this forum. By registering to use this forum you have already agreed to abide by our Terms of Use (TOU). The notes here are an expansion of what you saw at registration, and go some way in explaining and defining what is, and is not, acceptable behaviour on this forum.

Please constrain discussions to the relevant areas. The 'Workshop' and 'Restoration' sections should only be used for serious technical discussions not for chatting. There is a 'General Forum' for more general Land Rover related topics. We have a 'Forum Help' section where you can ask advice on how to make the forum work. Off-topic discussions or threads which wander off into the wilderness may be deleted or moved to more appropriate sections.

The software has a limited profanity filter but some people seem to go to great lengths to try and bypass it. The moderators will edit obscenities from your posts and any attempt to disguise a word by using "****" may be removed. Persistent offenders will be removed from the forum. Please remember that we try to run a family friendly forum and the test we try to apply is whether we would be happy with children or elderly relatives reading your post.

If you find yourself getting tangled in a heated debate or argument please bear in mind that all forum posts are public.  Sometimes such arguments get laborious for everyone else and don't maintain the friendly atmosphere we seek. We will not tolerate baiting or bullying of other forum members. If you have a problem with another user or other comments posted on the forum please let us know. There is a built in facility for doing this, every message has a 'report to moderator' feature, just click that.

We offer a free classified ads facility to personal advertisers. Any adverts by a business offering commercial products or services will be deleted unless these have been agreed by the Club. Advertisers in Legend magazine are able to post trade advertisments free of charge in the 'For Sale' section. Alternatively, trade adverts can be posted for a period of one year upon payment of an advertising fee to the Club. Please email for details.

If another user asks a question about where to obtain an item or for recommendations for a product or service, trade and business members can respond but blatant advertising is not permitted.

The 'For Sale' section is not an opportunity to pick apart a vehicle and make unfounded claims as to it's legality. If you don't like what's on offer, contact the vendor and/or the relevant authorities. Forum members are reminded of their legal obligations in providing a fair description of items for sale. The onus is on the vendor - buyer - to ascertain that the item(s) are suitable for their purpose. Caveat emptor! If you are interested in purchasing a complete vehicle then you are recommended to inspect before buying, or at least appoint an agent to look for you.

The Forum Owner, the Land Rover Series One Club Ltd, The Land Rover Register 1948-1953 and their Officials are NOT responsible for the description, supply, delivery or non-payment of any items sold through this discussion forum or any correspondence resulting. We will not act as intermediaries in sorting out disputes.

In cases of dispute, please contact your local trading standards office and/or pursue the matter through the small claims court procedures.

Please note: Mention of a vendor or proprietary product does not constitute a guarantee, warranty or endorsement of the vendor or product by the Land Rover Series One Club Ltd, The Land Rover Register 1948-1953 (or their committees) and does not imply its approval to the exclusion of other vendors or products that may also be suitable.

A forum owned and operated by a club (like ours) is not the place to air your grievances about a company, product or service. We do not have the time or resources to investigate reported cases of bad service or poor quality products. Please contact the supplier/vendor in the first instance.

Anything you wouldn't show children shouldn't be posted on the forum. No nude, rude or suggestive photos or illustrations.  Photos depicting deliberate or foolish damage to the environment will be removed. Please note that we are not a back-up service and cannot guarantee to hold copies of your photos for ever. Images in the gallery are subject to removal during system maintenance. By posting pictures here, we retain the right to display the images as we see fit.

Are personal pictures that appear under your forum name. In a similar vein to the above comments, we don't want to see bouncing b**bs next to every message you post. You can use static or animated gifs up to 100 x 100 pixels.

You can edit your profile to show a standard signature after every message you post. The signature is posted after your first post in a topic and thereafter once on each topic page. Overly long signatures just break up the flow of a discussion so please keep it brief. If you find avatars and signatures annoying you can turn them off in your forum profile.

We will remove illegal content of any kind. This includes links to any copyright materials.

The forum is not a chatroom. You can use the personal message system (PMs) for private chat.

This includes many anti-social forum activities. Retro-editing is where a topic is started and posts made and an author comes back later and removes comments from their post such that all subsequent posts are rendered nonsense. It is acceptable to retro-edit a post if you notice an obvious error of fact or if you want to add more detail. We attempt to block or remove any other activities such as flood posting, spamming or any other activity designed to disrupt the forum. Trollish behaviour will result in the forum account being closed.

As much as we would all like the freedom to say what we like, it is the Club that will get the lawyer's letters if someone takes offence. WE are responsible for the content of the forum so if we feel something is inappropriate in any way, shape or form it will be deleted. We do not have to justify ourselves and we will not enter into any debates with people who think their civil liberties are somehow being infringed. If you want a personal soapbox you are quite welcome to create your own forum or blog. That may seem a little harsh but we are not a public service and we are under no obligation to give you free access to our facilities.

Summary of the rules:
  • Do not use this forum to make personal attacks or comments that might be misunderstood and cause offence. Post nothing here that you wouldn't want your children or family to see.
  • Do not post libellous comments regarding individuals or businesses.
  • Please do not post images that are not yours to post.
  • Please do not link to images on other web sites (bandwidth theft) without permission from the site owner.
  • Posting a link to anther web site is acceptable, but seek permission to use copyrighted material.
  • Please do not test the profanity filter's vocabulary.

We rely on our forum members to 'police' our community, you are our eyes and ears. If you are not happy with something, don't just sit there - tell us about it. We cannot read every single post the instant it is posted.

We have a team of experienced moderators who oversee forum activity. They are not here to "spy" on you. They are here to make your forum a pleasant and enjoyable place to visit and post. The moderators have their own posting area where problem posts and forum issues/policy can be discussed. A moderators actions are not done on a whim. They will normally inform posters what the problem is, although often it is quite obvious what is wrong with a post.

This forum is open to viewing by the public at large. Be careful about posting personal information, addresses, phone numbers and email addresses. Under 18s should be particularly careful and get permission from their guardian/parent. Any information you post is at your own risk. Access to the members' only sections is restricted, but we can't guarantee total security. You are best advised to contact members by PM and then exchange personal details.
